Kirk's Bookshelves

Buddy of mine wanted some help making built ins for his fireplace.  Me being the type of guy I am let him muscle me into helping.  It was actually the perfect project, he designed it (with a little guidance), he paid for all the material, I cut the parts to the design, we both glued up the parts, he installed it and he finished it.  Since we used birch plywood for the shelves and backing we decided to buy rough birch lumber.  I never realized that birch is as hard as maple.

No, the purple wall was not my choice, his wife said something about accent wall, what do I know.

Note the flutes on the side piece.
