Intake

Without reliable dyno data it is really hard to choose a kit from the assorted manufacturers.  They all have high claims and have their data to confirm it, I find them all subjective.  I decided I would pick a kit with the following items:

cold air intake

After talking to a couple of industry leaders in this field (one of the benefits to working in the automotive field), this set up would best suit my driving habits.  It appears that for speeds between 0 and 30 miles an hour the engine bay temperature will be higher, 15-20 degrees.  At higher speeds the air pulled through the engine compartment will cause the temperature to drop to near ambient temperature.

K&N filter

Best filter IMHO

Large radius intake tube

The large radius allows the air to flow better.

The intake I chose is from Street Smart Design.  The kit comes complete with the K&N filter and recharge kit.  Unlike most aftermarket kits, this one kept the air intake at the fender, where the rest pulled air from inside the engine compartment. The intake went on in a half hour.

When I first installed the kit I didn't like the way the wires were exposed in the maf connector.  Since that time I was able to slide down the rubber grommet to cover the wires.
